The trial of Annie Strange, * middle-aged woman, who had pleaded, nob guilty, on the; 'previous, day* to a-charge of having performed an illegal operation on a woman named Agnes Olsen, was concluded. Mr. R. A. Singer, who appeared as counsel for the accused, called no evidence for the defence, but submitted that) the only evidence the, Crown had 'brotighti in support of the charge was that of an accomplice.' *... Mr. Singer also submitted that the evidence showed that prior to the alleged offence the accomplice had administered, to the young woman medicaments having the same object in view. ■ > The jury after a short retirement found a verdict of not guilty, and the*accus(eC|Hiß discharged. _ '•■ I;; A bright-looking l yOung lad named TOnk McGrath- pleaded not guilty, to, a Charge of* having behaved indecently in the:'presence of a young girl at Mountain- Road, Mount Eden, on December 6 last.
