MR. HECTOR APPOINTED.

CiraiSTCHiracH, Tuesday. The New Zealand University Senate considered in committee this afternoon the question of the election of a registrar in succession to Mr. J. W. Joyut, who resigned last year. There were nine candidates for the position, and the system of balloting adopted was to pair the men, and vote on each pair. Finally it was announced that Mr. Barclay Hector, assist-ant-registrar, who has been acting-regis-trar since Mr. Joynt resigned, had been elected to the position.
Mr. Hector, who is a son of the late i Sir James Doctor, lias been connected with the University for 16 years. In February, 1899 ho was appointed assistant to Mr. J. W. Joynt. At the special meeting of the Senate of April, 1910, Mr. Joynt tendered his resignation, and Mr. Hector has been the acting-registrar ever since. On many occasions ho has acted as registrar for periods varying for three weeks to two months, and all told ho has actually carried on the business of the University almost single-handed for very nearly two complete years.
