DARING AVIATION FLIGHT.
TEN THOUSAND FEET HIGH.
-■"Writing on December 9 a Paris correspondent ears: —M. Legagneux, tho wellknown aviator, 'has,according to despatches from Pan, made an extraordinary altitude . flight to-day, in which ho lias beaten all previdns records. After Paulhan, Latham, Mora-ne, and Drcxel had alternately held tho record, tho American, Mr. Jolrnstone, it may be remembered, surpassed them all, und scored by reaching a height of 9380 ft. Since then Wynmale-n and others have tried to beak that record, and finally Mr. X>egagneiix eet himself the task at Pau, ■where tho conditions for flying are excellent at this season. . M. Legagnenx made a few prelhnruary attempt*, recently, and yesterday, during 'a flight of 25 minutes, ho reached "a height of 3400 ft. This morning ho decided to make another attempt to-beat the record, and set out at 10.40 on a Blcriot monoplane. The -weather was magnificent, and he gradually forged up to an extraordinary elevation. He took one hour 40 minutes to accomplish the feat, one of the most daring yet at- • tempted, and by noon he wag on a level •with the highest" peaks of the Pyrenees, and completely out of sight of the naked eye. His evolutions could be" followed only by ■means of powerful field-glasses. He landed at 12.40. and tho barometer then showed that he had readied an altitude of 10,497 ft. He had found the cold intense, and was shivering as he landed. There were numerous spectators, and the aviator was Enthupiast?cally cheered as ho stepped put of his machine. '-
