THE CLAIM OF A CONVENT.

Palherston North, Tuesday. The convent authorities of St. ' Patrick's, Palmerston" North, have claimed a refund of the rates paid last year to the Borough Council, amounting to £40, and have also declined to pay a similar rate this year. The ground of the refusal is the recent decision of the Appeal Court in Christchurch that convents are immune from rating tinder-the Act*
