THE WESTERN PACIFIC.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE.

[by TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Dtr.vEDJN, Tuesday. Interviewed this evening, Mr. E. L. Bat-, chelor (Commonwealth Minister for Internal Affairs) said that one argument in favour of removing the Commissioner of; the Western Pacific to Sydney, was that the Commissioner to roach some parts under his jurisdiction lias to travel to Sydney and then back again. By having the headquarters at Sydney a more direct control could be exercised. The decision, however, lay with the Imperial authorities, but all the interests concerned were Australian. As to whether Australia, would make any strong representations, he could not say, not having consulted Cabinet, but undoubtedly Sydney was the better centre. Ho could not see why there should be any conflict between Australia and New Zealand over the proposed removal, as the interests were all Australian. ' '•
