THOUSAND-MILE CANAL.
IRRIGATED NEW SOUTH WALES.
Within a month or two the New South Wales Government will proceed to exercise the powers conferred upon it by the- Murrumbidgeo Irrigation Bill, passed shortly beforo the session closed. The Minister for Works, the Minister for Lands, and the Minister for Agriculture will, be created a trust to assume all responsibility in connection with the whole scheme represented by the great Barron Jack dam weir, at Be-rem-bed, the irrigable area lying between Narrawlera and Uunbar, and the thousand miles of canal through which the Murrumbidgeo waters will be distributed in September. About £1,500,000 will have been invested in the undertaking, and it is calculated that as a result of this expenditure lands that at present accommodate scarcely half a dozen homes will support a population of 150,000, and add £3,000,000 per annum to the value of farm products.
