I *. »-• ;; Invercargill, Sunday.. ~ At a meeting of the < Bluff Waterside : Workers' Union the following series of demands were-approved for submission to a conference with employers to be held I shortly : Hours, from 8 aim. to 5 p.m., meal hour 12 to one, all other time overtime wages. Handling general cargo (ordinary); Is 3d per hour, overtime, 2s; coal, Is 6d and :2s 6d ; trimming, 2s and 3s; carrying coal, 2s and 3s; repair work, Is 3d and 2s: in freezing chambers, Is 6d and 2s 6d ; oil wharf, Is 3d and 2s; cool chambers, Is 3d and 2s; guano and all manure in bulk, Is 6d and 2s 6d; creosote,. Is 6d and 2s 6d; night watchman, 10s per night. Men to be paid for Half an hour when they work over fifteen minutes nothing '' for under that < time. When men are ordered down to commence work. between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., and are not put on, they shall receive one hour's pay at overtime .rate, viz., 2s; between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. they shall receive two hours' overtime rate, 4s. Holidays to bo paid at ordinary time rate, men not to be required to work more than six hours without 'a meal. Whilst engaged in*[coaling work the carrying baskets shall average 12£ to the ton; large, five to one ton. The temperature of the meat chambers whilst the men are working therein shall not bo lower than 12deg. above zero. The usual clauses for preference to unionists are inserted. The proposed award shall apply only to the casual labourer employed from aay to day and from hour to hour, and shall not have reference to weekly or permanent-, employees. It shall apply to the wharves and grain stores at the Bluff.
