The Chatham Islanders are a blest community, in that there are no taxes to pay, no political meetings to attend, no members of Parliament to propitiate, and no burning vexed questions to discuss (says a Christchurch Press correspondent). A sportsman's paradise are these outlying islands; fish teem off the coasts, and ducks I and wild pigs afford the votaries of the gun excellent material on which to try their skill. There is no gun license to pay, and no acclimatisation society's ranger to beware of. If you arrive at the Chathams and wish to make your home there, you cannot rent a house, you must lease a bit of land and build one, or become a lodger with some family whose edifice is in situ. , The Chathams are blessed with an exceedingly salubrious climate, sickness is of very rare occurrence, and would then appear to be imported, and the simple" life is in vogue 'parwaig. all the iahabitaxits. \ >
