MEETINGS.

1.0. G.T. The quarterly meeting of the Auckland District Lodge. 1.0. G.T., was held in the Orange Hall on Saturday afternoon, when delegates wore present from the following lodges:—Ark of Eden, Hope of Grey Lynn, Star of Newton, Nil Desperandum, Star of Devonport, Victoria, Prido of Auckland. Bro. Chappell, past grand C.T., England, and Sister ChappeH, P.N.G.T., were present and duly reoeiveid.o. Bro. T. M. Moore, jun., D.C.T., presided. Six members took district degrees. The officers' reports were very encouraging, showing a net increase of 46 members for the quarter. The report of the superintendent of juvenilo work showed a net increase of 14 members. The treasurer read a statement showing a credit balance of £14. It was decided to engage a lady from England as a special organiser. The following resolution was carried unanimously:—"That this district lodge congratulates the New Zealand Alliance upon the fact that tho Government has placed upon the Statute Books a direct vote for the national prohibition of the liquor traffic. Wo now urge that every effort bo made to secure that every true Liberal bo pledged to vote only for the candidate of good character pledged to the democratic principle of simple majority rule." It was decided to hold a picnic on Boxing Day. A handsome 1.0. G.T. ensign was presented to the district lodge by Mr. E. Le Roy, to whom a special vote of thanks was passed by acclamation. LODGE MAUNGAWHA'O, No. 168. Lodge Maungawhao, No. 168, held its annual installation meeting in the lodgeroom, Woodsido Road. Mt. Eden, on Thursday evening last. There was a. large attendance of members and visitors, including R.W. Bro. G. H. Powley, D.P.G.M., and Grand Lodge officers. The retiring W.M., W. Bro. J. Coo, installed his successor, W. Bro. F. Wilson Smith, who then invested his officers as follows:—W. Bro. J. Coo., 1.P.M.; Bro. H. N. Gill, S.W.; Bro. H. L. Wade, J.W.; treasurer, W. Bro. G. B. Braithwaite; secretary, W. Bro. D. B. Wallace; chaplain, V.W. Bro. E. J. MoFarland; D. of C, W. Bro. O. A. Semadoni; organist, Bro. W. J. Gatenley; S.D., Bro. H. N. Garland; J.D., Bro. H. T. Surman; S.S., Bro. A. E. Macartney; .T.S., Bro. S. J. Burns; A.S., Bros. N. L. Williams and E. Yates; 1.G., Bro. A. J. Ellyett. After tho lodge was closed the brethren adjourned to the supper-room, where light refreshments were partaken of. REMUERA ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Remuera Road Board was hold last evening, the members present being: Messrs. C. A. Cawkwell (chairman), E. Bond, W. J. Parker, P. Spencer, and A. (i. Pilkington. The chairman stated that the Newmarket Borough Council had withdrawn from the proposal in regard to the new reserve in Hobson Bay. A decision in regard to the action to bo taken by tho Board in the matter was postponed until the next meeting, pending the report of the committee set up by the conference to consider ways and means. A letter was received from the City Council stating that refuse would be accepted at the destructor from Remuera at the. rate of three shillings a ton. The chairman said it was time that something was done in this matter. The matter was referred to the Works Committee to arrange and to report to the next) meeting. The plan of a new road through the Dilworth Estate, to connect St. Mark's Road and Manukau Road, was approved, subject to some modifications recommended by the Works Committee. The chairman reported that tho Works Committeo had not yet arrived at a definite decision regarding the question of fire prevention. The Board had a reel, hose, etc., and it might bo advisable to form a volunteer brigade composed of some of the single members of the Board's staff. The initial outlay would probably be £150. It was reported that the police intended as far as possible at the next rape meeting to send the traffic down Vincent Road and back by way of Ascot Avenue. A schedule of streets, for the improvement of which it is proposed to raise a loan, was.submitted and approved. SAILORS* SOCIETY. At the usual weekly concert of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, Auckland branch, held on Friday evening, there was a good attendance, and an interesting programme was rendered. One feature that is specially noteworthy in these Friday evening gatherings of sailors is the quiet, orderly behaviour of the men. At tho close of the concert refreshments were served by the workers and Captain Bazeley, and singing and prayer concluded a pleasant evening.
