GOLF.
Mr. F. W. Furkert, district engineer, Public Works Department, made an inspection of the peninsula recently in view of the proposed construction of golf links (says the Wakatipu Mail). The peninsula was bought some time ago by the Tourist Department for the purpose named. Several who considered themselves in a position to know said that, the spot was unfit for links and would be too costly to nut into order owing to the fern. This opinion is not shared by Mr. Furkert, who, in addition to his official capacity, speaks as a golfer of some experience. He considers that a fine nine-hole golfing ground could be laid out, the length of the course being 1£ miles and about 100 yds wide. We understand, therefore, that ho,will report favourably on the suitableness of the peninsulaShould the work be gone on with accommodation will be provided for golfers in the shape of a pavilion. A small landing place will also bo erected for the convenience of launches and boats.
