EFFORTS AT SETTLEMENT.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright. (Received November 11, 10.30 p.m.) London, November 11. Mr. G. R. Askwith (ComptrollerGeneral of the Labour Department of the Board of Trade) will shortly confer with the mineowners who are affected by the strikes in Wales, with a view to endeavouring to effect a settlement of the trouble. The miners' delegates have prepared a written statement of their grievances. The police are patrolling the Rhondda, Aberdare, and other districts, the military being stationed in the background as a precaution. Torrents of rain fell yesterday, and all was quiet. Mr. Churchill, quoting from the reports of the police and military, announced to-day that order had everywhere been strictly maintained The mineowners complain of Mr. Churchill's action in withholding the military at the early stages. The situation was relieved when the military appeared on the scene.
