CHRISTMAS BOOKS.
As certainly as Christmas is heralded by the appearance of the gorgeous "annuals," so is it indicated in the bookshops by the presence of prints of the newest colour processes. When we buy books for. Christmas presents for expectant, friends, we are apt to choose the prettiest pictures, without much regard to the text. It can hardly be said that the text of such publications as the "Boys" Own Paper and " Girls' Own Annual" (Religious Tract Society, 4,Bou-verie-street. E.C.) is not in keeping with the excellent illustration. The two volumes this year contain numerous colour plates and half-tone illustrations supplied by such artists as Tom Browne, R. 1., Leslie Carter. Will Owen, William Rainey, R.I. Writers are represented by Eustace Miles. Dr. Gordon Stables (always popular), R. A. R. Bennett, .and many others too numerous to mention. An excellent portrait of the late King appears as a frontispiece to the "'Girls' Own Annual." As Christmas gifts for boys and girls of all ages and sizes these two publications arc most excellent. From the same firm we also have to acknowledge the receipt of the " Sunday at Home," which needs no comment, except to say that it is better than ever.
