Two young scions of the aristocracy, wellknown on trio turf, have just entered into a friendly compact which is proving far from satisfactory to the bookmaking fraternity. Seeing that they were losing heavily they agreed that until the end of the year they' would not have more than £100 on anv horse which they fancied. In the event of either breaking the compact he is to forfeit the sum of £1000. One prominent bookmaker has already offered to pay the forfeit, but the young men have eo far withstood every temptation. The compact applies at present only to .turf speculations. It was only the other day that one of the young men won one million francs at baccarat at a fashionable resort on the Continent. ,=
