AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING. SECOND DAY. The second and concluding day's racing in connection with the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting was brought off yesterday at Alexandra Park. Most depressing weather conditions prevailed during the running of the earlier events, but the afternoon ended up gloriously fine. The attendance was good. On the track the going was heavy and in places somewhat treacherous. Mr. I. Hill again filled the judge'srbox, while the times were taken by Messrs. G. Read and F. W. Edwards. Mr. C. O'Connor despatched the fields successfully. The gathering was excellently managed by Mr. C. ■ F. Mark (secretary), who did everything possible for the convenience of patrons. . ' The stewards considered the running of Haniapuku and St. Michael in the Middle-class Trot of Saturday. Veterinary evidence was submitted to the effect that Hamapuku's bloomer slipped in therace, severely cutting him under the arm, and this explanation was deemed satisfactory. Hamilton, trainer of St. Michael, was cautioned for starting a horse so much out of condition. After the Pony Race R. W. Brown (rider of Norway) was reprimanded for bumping other horses in the early part of the race. Speculation was brisk, the sum of £2583 passing through the machines, a slight decrease compared with the £2758 10s handled on the corresponding day of 1909. The following is a table comparing the investments for the last three spring meetings :— 1908. 1909. 1910. First day 2.224] 2,719 ' 3,302.} Second day 2,665* 2,753 i i:,583 £4,890 £5,4774 £5,685 Twelve 'bookmakers were licensed at £7 10s each, returning £90 in fees, or a total amount" of £187 10s for the meeting. Although several races were won comfortably, the racing was full of interest, the finish of the Junction Trot arousing much enthusiasm. Mikado opened the programme by carrying off the Trial Trot after a good race with Annoyed. The Bllerslio Trot, went to that useful performer Royal Albert, who started second favourite, while Bob G., the best supported of -the: starters, ran last. Tankee Doodle was a muc'a better favourite than Tableau, Wild Marie, and Haldane for. the Alexandra Trot, and he duly landed the stake, with the absolute outsider (Viscount) second. The Remuera Handicap, for ponies, saw Prophesied I start at odds on. Nora'Soult gave a lot of trouble, and eventually the other quartette left without her. The. favourite made the running for about half the journey, when Norway, ran into tlje lead, and then won easily. Norway is a pretty-looking: four-year-old by the Auckland Cup winner Wairiki. A trio lined up for the Junction Trot, which the favourite (Phyllistina) won after a splendid finish with Speciality. Hamapuku was heavily supported for the Innovation Trot, which he won without trouble. The High-class Trot brought out three contestants, and most money went on John Harold, who won nicely. Much interest was taken from the race owing to Royal Victor breaking his gear and pulling up in the early stages. The concluding eventthe, Insulation Trot— Mah Honey, Irish Molly,' and Manxman best backed in a field of nine, and the trio filled the places in the order written,' ./!' .
