Stockholders in the Illinois Central railroad were surprised at the annual meeting by the action of an attorney, Mr.. Maxwell Egar, who had subpoenas served on all the directors who were held responsible for financial loss through graft." John Jacob Astor and Cornelius Vanderbilt were among those served. The action is for 10,000,000 dollars.
