The Ponsonby Club will open the $;reen for play to-day, without formal ceremony, | the annual "At Home" being fixed for November 19. The Cambridge Club has issued invitations fcr an opening day on November 2. The Remuera Club's green will l>e opened for play next Saturday, when members will b? " At Home" to their friends and visitir.g bowlers. The president, of the Ponsonby Club (Mr. Jas. Hodgson) entertained about 100 members and guests at the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday evening. A number of toasts were honoured, and a programme of musical and vocal items rendered. The Ellerslie Bowling Club is now an accomplished fact, and during the week a site has been decided on for the green in a 11Andy position to the station. The club has decided to affiliate with the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association. The Stanley Club has decided to add to tho ground appointments by erecting a pavilion. Tenders have been called for this necessary work, which will be proceeded with at once. Tho Onehiuiga Club will hold the formal opening of the preen for the season to-day. Tho Onehunga Club is noted for its hospitality, and visiting bowlers are assured of a good reception, and an enjoyable afternoon's sport. Tho Auckland Provincial Association continues to grow. There are now 28 clubs affiliated, tho latest additions being the Ellerslie, Victoria (with headquarters at Victoria Park), Whitiora, and Howick Clubs. Tho Waitcmata Bowling Club is holding the opening of the season ceremony to-day. The committee of the Auckland Bowling Club has. decided to open the green for play without ceremony next Saturday. The members are looking forward to a successful season. The Howiek Club has decided to hold an open tournament tho first week in January. Tho formal opening of the Mount Eden green for the season will take place next Saturday. Tho Mount Eden brothers of the wood always extend the right hand of fellowship to visiting brethren. Visiting bowlers are sure of a hearty welcome under tho shade of the mountain. Tho Epsom Club is on the high road to prosperity, if increasing membership can be taken as a sign. About 30 new members have been elected this season. The Auckland, Ponsonby, and Rocky Nook Clubs have decided to hold "At Homes " later in the season, instead of holding formal opening clays. The official opening of "the season of the Howick Bowling Club was held oil Saturday, and there was a brgo gathering of players and visitors, including representatives from Ponsonby, Remuera, Mount Eden. Grey Lynn, Onehunga, Devonport, and Whangarei. After welcoming the visitors, the president announced the affiliation with the Auckland Provincial Association, and tho intention of holding a tournament in January. The greens were opened by Mrs. Gilmou.r with due ceremony. The pavilions and grounds were decorated with bunting for tho occasion. The condition of tho greens evoked general admiration, reflecting great credit on tho caretaker, Mr. W. Barnett. Refreshments were provided by Mrs. Gilmour. Mr. Finlayson, of Remuera, speaking for the visitors, expressed pleasure at their reception, and complimented tho club on tho excellence of its greens, the beauty of their environment, and thej hospitality of the members, A urosiMu*>us season is anticipated.
