A SPECIAL COMMITTEE APPOINTED.
The third session of the nineteenth Auckland Diocesan Synod of the Anglican Church opened yesterday. The special session of the Synod held for the purpose of electing a bishop in (succession to Dr. Neligan, was opened n St Man's Parish Hall, Pamell, at 2 '- , The commissar,- (Archdeacon Calp.m- ■11 . , der) president oi the Synod, was in the •hair. l- ,ir diocesan secretary (Mr. W. < Cochrance and the registrar (Mr. H. After the president, had duly opened the Synod with prayer, he made a few remarks in which he referred in feeling terms to the deaths of the late Revs. S. Spencer, J. Marshall. G. Maunsell, F. Larkins, and Messrs. F. Pavitfc (Te Aroha), T. Wells (Cambridge), G. Brown (Pukekohe), and Heywood Crispe (Mauku). He very much regretted the cause of the present special session of the Synod, viz., the failure in health of the late Bishop (Dr. Neligan). He trusted that the Synod would be as abundantly blessed as it deserved by the power of God's Holy Spirit !n arriving at a right judgment in the choice of a successor. (Applause). He also had a message from Dr. Neligan expressing a hope that God's blessing would rest on the Synod's labours.
The Rev. W. H. Wilson was elected clerical secretary, and Mr. S. L. Abbott lay secretary. The Hon. E. Mitchelson v.as appointed chairman of committees.
