"The Rev. Canon Mac-Murray and Me Chas. Calder were passengers from the South -by the Rarawa yesterday. The Rev. P. B. Eraser was nominated as Moderator of the Assembly for 1911 by the Dunedin Presbytery yesterday. Mr C. H. Poole, M.P. tor Auckland West was a passenger for Wellington by the Maori, from Lyttelton, last night. Mr A. S Bi«=, of Wellington, arrived in Auckland bv the Main Trunk express yesterday, and'is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. H. Meek, of Dunedin. who has been here on a. week's visit, staying at the Star Hotel, left for the South by the Victoria yesterday afternoon. Mr. James Wilson, formerly assistant town clerk at Devonport, was appointed town clerk of the borough last night, at ft salary-of .C 225 per annum. Mr. A. >". Korth, of Gisborne. who has oeen on" a vist here during the past fortnight, staving at the Star Hotel, left for home by the Victoria yesterday afternoon. Mr. W. B. Haseldeu. S.M.. will leave 'Wellington for Auckland by the Main Trunk express this morning, on business connected with the Railway Appeal Board. Mr. W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade Commissioner, is on a visit to Wellington to interview the Prime Minister on Canadian and New Zealand trade matters. Mr. A. E. Glover. M.P., was yesterday granted two days" leave of absence from his duties in the House of Representatives, on account of illness in his family. The acceptance of the resignation of the commission held by the hon. chaplain, the Right Rev. M. R. Neligan, D.D., as senior Anglican chaplain, Auckland, military district, has been gazetted. The Rev. Howard Elliott, of the Mount Eden Baptist Church, left for the South by the Main Trunk express, last evening, to attend the annual Assembly of the Baptist Union, which commenced in Dunedin to-day. ' •He will be absent from Auckland for about a fortnight. Mr. Sampson, chief postmaster at Greymouth for seven years, who has been transferred to Wansjanui. was on Monday nicht entertained by the Greymouth Bowling Club and citizens at a smoke conceit, and presented with a handsome liqueur stand. High encomiums were passed on him by leading business men, who testified to" his tactful administration of the departments, which had caused great in•jease in postal and telegraphic revenue.
