Clergymen of vari. ■; ous denominations and officers of the Salvation Army assisted. Dr. Henry delivered a stirring address, and Mr. Potts contributed several solos. WAESENGA. [FROM OTTII OWX CORRESPONDENT.] The Waeronga State Farm employees gave their annual social at Mrs. Gill's new hall on Friday evening, >vhen there was a large attendance. The secretary, Jlr. Webb, and an energetic committee did all they could to make the social a success. Dancing commenced at 8.30 p.m. Items were given by Mrs. Taylor, Messrs. Webb, Larsen, Bartlett, 'and others. The Board of Education, it is said, intend to use the new hall tor a temporary school; after the residents have agitated for the same for over two years. There is also an agitation on foot to get the Government to open up a township at the Wairangi station under a freehold tenure.

HUNTLY. [ooii DVR OWN ,corresi'oxue.vt.] The series of socials organised by th« Huntly Rowing Club, concluded on Friday night, with a ball which war, held in the Volunteer Hall, and which proved to be one of the most successful and enjoyable functions held during the season. The committee, in their efforts to promote the pleasure of their guests; had left nothing undone, the pretty decorations and the polished floor speaking volumes for their assiduity, while the commissarial department was equally eloquent of tho Ladies' Committee, which consisted of Mesdames W. Darby, Hall, and Puch, Misses L. Allen, Davies and Parkes. Very fine music was provided by Messrs. S. Webster (piano), and Win. Darby (violin), while Messrs. W. Kirkwood and C. Hall proved to be highly efficient M.C.'s, During the evening the donor, Miss Ralph, presented handsome gold medals to the winners of the club trial fours, the crew comprising D. Brown (stroke), Wm. Norvell, W. Rayner, E. Hall, and. W. Allex (cox), as well as the. iersevs wo- bv C. Hall (stroke), W. Parkes, G. Richardson, D. Brown, and L. Harris (cox) in the up - Gide down trials. The committee deserve the most hearty congratulations -on the success their hard work deservedly earned. A most interesting and popular debate on the question"Should the Bible be read in Schools," engaged the attention of the members of the Huntly Literary and Debating Society on Friday night, when Mr. E. Hunter presided over an unusually large attendance. Messrs. W. Walker and W. Black led off the affirmative, while Messrs. H. Beck, and F. Mayman advocated the opposite, side, subsequent speakers being Messrs. G. Adams, J. Duncan, Ashton, H. Kruger, and D. Saunders. The affirmative was carried on the casting vote of the chairman. Except on Saturday, which is a holiday under the award, the mines last week worked full time, an excellent supply of waggons having been well maintained. An inanimate pigeon-shooting .match, North v. South, took place on Saturday, a large number of spectators being present and a close finish in favour of the South representatives by three birds resulting. The conditions were ten men aside, and ten birds each from the 12yd mark. The highest scorers in the match were Messrs. Wm. Parkes 10 (the possible), B. Clinch 9, A. Ruston 9, S. Gleeson 9, E. Clinch 8 and G. Pearce 8. After the match the usual sweepstake eventuated, Mr. E. Clinch being the winner with five out of six birds. Handsome medals, donated by Mr. Page Woods, gunsmith, Hamilton, and the president, respectively, will be competed for within the next month.

COROMANDEL.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.} Coboiiandel, Tuesday. ~; The mission in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church is being held every evening under favourable auspices, and the inter- y est is increasing. The singing of solos/' by the Evangelist (Mr. J. H. Stephen), and his forceful preaching, drew a large gathering on Sunday evening. CAMBRIDGE. [from our own correspondent.] The training school at Pukekura, which is, conducted under the auspices of the Seventh Day Adventists, closed on Friday - for the usual vacation held at the end of each year, which is generally of 13 weeks '■'■[ duration. Quite a number of toe pupils 'ft; and others connected with the order, left ' ■ the Cambridge station on Monday morn- ; v ing, many of them being bound for Australia. Amongst those who left was Mr. F. L. Chaney, the principle and business ,;; manager, who goes to attend a conference in Melbourne, and it is thought it is ' ; very probable he will be appointed to another post, and not return to the Waikato. Mr. Chaney has been principle of the train ':'.'■;. ing school since its inception some years . ago, and he has made a number of friends, in the district, who trust he may return t and continue at the head of the school. During his absence the management will be taken over by Mr. J. Mills, who has been preceptor for the past two years, and is also much esteemed. HAMILTON. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Tuesday. ■■':■{ At the meeting of the Kirikiriroa Road Boai'd, notification was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands to the £ effect that section 157 of the Taupiri :■-..':' parish was vested in thp Board in 1902. The Board agreed to\the proposal of the Health Department that the Waikato Hospital Board should act as the board of ; health for the district.- The engineer re- ~'ft ported that he estimated the cost of the work on the Hukanui-Piako Road, Motumaoho, at £85, and he recommended that the Board should raise a- loan to deal with the question of replacing the larger bridges. The report was adopted. The services in connection with the United Mission were continued last week by the local clergymen, and were concluded - on Monday with a thanksgiving service in the Weslev Hall. Miss Sandee, who is 'leaving for Australia to be married, was presented by the members of St. Peter's Guilds with a handsome Southern Cross brooch as an appreciation of her connection with the guilds. Miss S. Swarbrick, who is shortly to be married, was presented by the pupils of St. Peter's Girls' Bible Class, which she has conducted for some time, with a pair of silver serviette rings. Mr. L. Sutton, who has been connected with the Hamilton-Raglan mail service for over 20 years, severed his connection therewith on' Friday last, and the new proprietors, Messrs. Jeffries Bros., took up their initial trip on Saturday. >""-■■ '
