TERCENTENARY YEAR. By Telegraph.— Press Association.—Copyright. (Received October 4, 10.33 p.m.) London, October 4. The British and. Foreign Bible Society has resolved to promote the general observance of the tercentenary of the publication in 1611 of the authorised version of the Bible.

The translation of 1611,, the preface of ho revised version of the Bible states, was the work of many hands and several generations. The foundations were laid by William Tyndale. His translation of tho Now Testamerit was a " true primary version." It is recorded that on July 22. 1604, King James wrote to Archbishop Beucraft, who was acting representative of tho vacant See of Canterbury, announcing that, he had appointed 54- learned men to translate the Bible, and requiring him to take measures whereby he might, bo able to recompense Hie translators by Church preferment. They subsequently divided into six companies, and carried out their work in sections at Westminster, Cambridge, and Oxford. ■
