» MEN REFUSE TO WORK. UNION SECRETARY'S ACTION. Tut TELEGBArn. —press ASSOCIATION.) v Gisboene, Tuesday. Sheahrrs were about to start work to-day at Faulkner's station, Muriwai, 16 miles from Gieborn©, when the local tmion secretary appeared on the scene and conferred with the men. As a result of the conversation, whatever it was, the shearers, who were natives, threw down shears and refused to proceed. 'They had engaged to shear at 20s a 100, with 3s a 100 extra for "finding" themselves. After tho consultation with the union secretary the men told their employers that they would not ehear unless they received 20s a 100 and were found in rations by tho employers. A'deadlock ensued, and* both tides are standing firm. The men have left the shed. A meeting of the sheepowners in tho district will be held to-morrow to. discuss tho position, but it is almost certain that they will not agree to the men's demands.
