POLICE COURT NEWS.

ALLEGED THEFT OF TOOLS. Frank Johnston was charged at the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. M. J. Bennett and J. C. Becroft, J.P.'.s, with theft of a hammer valued at 4s 6il, the property of Thomas Inglis, and of a wrench valued at 4s 6(1, the property of J. B. Mussey. Chief-Detective. Marsack applied for a remand until Friday. Other tools, he said, had been found on the accused, and the detectives were ascertaining tho owners of these. There would bo further charges against the accused, and they had better bo taken all together. The remand was granted.

FOUR CHARGES. Patrick Dwyer had four charges against his name :—(1) Drunk and disorderly ; (2) obscene language : (3) resisting a constable ; and (4) damaging the policeman's mackintosh. He was remanded until Thursday. DRUNKENNESS. Charles MeDermott, guilty of disorderly conduct whilst drunk, was "fined £1, with costs, in default 14 days' imprisonment. .Lawrence O'Neil, a- seaman from the Cornwall, who had to he put on board his ship the previous day, made another appearance. As his ship had a full complement, his captain was not anxious to receive him. He was fined £1, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Samuel Henry Davis was convicted and ordered to pay his cab hire and other ex penses. William Duke was fined ss, or 24 hours. A first offender who did not appear was ordered to forfeit his bail, and two others were convicted and discharged. BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. William Golding, who admitted that he had failed to keep to the left side of the street while driving a vehicle in Quaystreet, was fined ss, with costs 7s. William Smith did not appear in answer to a similar charge. He was fined 10s, with costs 7s Arthur George, the proprietor of a cof-fee-stall, left it .standing by night unlighted in Victoria-street. He viae, lined ss, with costs 7s. WANDERING HORSES. Before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., W. J. McLean pleaded not guilty to a charge of allowing horses to wander at large on Wharf Road, St. Heliers Bay. Mr. Schnauer appeared for the complainant. William Arnold, the district ranger, and Mr. C. J. Parr for the defendant. McLean was fined £1, with costs 2s 6d. A charge of rescuing the horses from the ranger on the way to the pound, was withdrawn.
