ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
A RECORD IN QUESTION. [by TELEGRAPH. —miss association.] Wellington. Monday. The council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met this evening, Mr. A. Marryatt presiding. A lengthy communication was received from Auckland, stating that it desired 10 appeal against the decision of the council in refusing to grant the record to D. Wilson for his three-mil:! walk against Kerr at Auckland last season. It was pointed out that the council had not refused to grant the lecord, but had refused to consider it, on the ground that it had rot b<;en applied for within 60 days. Mr. Thompson moved that the appeal be forwarded as requested. The Chairman said that in his opinion the motijn was out of order, because an appeal to the Australasian Union could not lie in the case of a refusal to consider an application for a New Zealand record. A New Zealand .record was granted by the council of the Dominion only, and that being so, no other body could say whether it should grant a record or not. Ho was not opposed to other opinion being asked, but was opposed to the New Zealand Association giving up its privileges to an outside body. The motion was out of order. Mr. Thompson moved, " That this meeting disagrees with (lie chairman's ruling, and that he do leave the chair. This was carried by three votes to two, and Mr. J. H. Pollock took the chair. The original motion was moved again. The chairman ruled that it was out of order, bat finally accepted it. Mr. Marryatt moved, as an amendment, " That this appeal be forwarded to the Australasian Union for opinion as to the merits of th? case." This was carried by four votes to two.
