By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received October 2, 5.10 p.m.) New York, October 1. The death is announced from Portland (Maine) of Mr. Winslow Homer, the American artist.

Mr. Winslow Horner was born at Boston in 1836. He exhibited his first pictures in 1863, and became an academician of the National Academy in 1865. He devoted his principal attention to figure pieces, negro studies being his particular speciality.
