DROWNED IN A DITCH.

FATALITY AT RICHMOND. s| A CHILD'S MISADVENTURE, ; A sad drowning accident occurred at'i Richmond, Grey Lynn, yesterday after# noon, the victim being Marjorie Elliott, ■ the eighteen-months-old daughter of Mr.: Edmund Elliott, fellmonger, who resides ' at the foot of the Old Mill Road. The child had been playing round its mother's knee, out in the open, during the after, noon, until about 4.45 p.m., when Mrs.. Elliott was called inside for a few min., - utes. She left the child playing about,, but on returning after a brief absence,' was astonished to see that the little one had disappeared. A search was at once instituted, and 30yds away the child was found lying dead at the bottom of a ditch. The ditch, which is about 4ft or sft deep, contains several inches of water, and it appears that the child, in running about, tumbled into it and wag drowned. An inquest will be held.
