POLICE COURT NEWS.

CHARGES OF ASSAULT. The hearing of the charges of assault against two young men named Arthur Redfem Cole and James Freland, was concluded at the Police Court on Saturday, before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S. M. Witnesses for the prosecution alleged that the two accused attacked two other young men without any apparent excuse, and inflicted on them painful and more or less serious injuries. Accused, who were defended by Mr. J. R. Lundon, pleaded not guilty, reserving their defence, and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. UNRULY SEAMEN. Six seamen from the steamer Cornwall were charged with absenting themselves from the ship without lawful excuse. They were all found guilty and sentenced to three days' imprisonment, or until the ship sailed, and to pay costs. Jam'es Forsythe, a seaman from the steamer Waddon, was convicted of using obscene language, and ordered to be put m board. INTEMPERANCE. . William MeKee was found guilty of be. ing drunk in Que'en-street in charge of horses, and fined £5, or 10 days' imprisonment. Harry Magusson was charged with being drunk in Queen-street, using obscene language, and resisting Constable Re'cvcs in the execution of his duty. He was convicted and fined £3, or seven days' imprisonment. Robert McVey and John Smith wor'e each fined £2, or seven days, for drunkenness and procuring liquor while prohibited. Frederick Watson was fined £1, or three days, for drunkenness. Robert Lyson was convicted, and made the subject of a prohibition order. For being disorderly in Symonds-street, .i fine of £3, or seven days' imprisonment, was passed on Frederick Elmbrand. Two first offenders were fined ss. or 24 hours' imprisonment., and a third forfeited bail. REMANDED. Florrie Scott, charged with importuning foot passengers in Wyndham-street, was remanded until to-day, on a bail of £10. Hichard Crisp, who was charged with aiding Scott, was also remanded until today. A further charge that he was an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support was withdrawn.
