A total of 135 applica-. tions were received in respect to • sections gjg embracing 5976 acres. The sections applied - for include that in the Selwvn settlement %'5 (near Okoroire), and those at Tautiri (near ; J Kihikihi), Matata (Whakatane), -Baking Waimana, Tetumu, and Raglan (near Ngaruawahia. The other sections, for g'-v which no applications were received, will remain open for selection. The applications show that the O.R.P.jstill continues • to be the favourite form of tenure with; yvv intending settlers. Of the 135 applicants ' for sections opened under the optional sys- ; tem, 92 have selected the 0.R.P., and 36' the renewable lease. The applicants represent all parts of »lie ; North Island and several South Island, districts, including Canterbury, Nelson,.;- , and Marlborough.
