BREACH OF PROMISE.
£150 DAMAGES AWARDED.
At Bendigo (Victoria), last week, Mr. J. H. Dunne, deputy prothonotary, assessed damages in an action for breach of promise of marriage brought by Margaret Parker, of Bendigo, against Thomas Hal), of Toora, Gippsland. Defendant, who is a man of independent means, did not appear. Mr. Dunne said it seemed to Mm a heartless case. Defendant had kept plaintiff on the string, so to speak, for five years, and had made repeated promises of marriage. He assessed the damages at £150, with costs to be taxed.
