Paris, September 12. Le Temps' rebutting the contention of M. Lanessan, states that France's task iii the event of war is the defence of the Mediterranean, to prevent the Austrian and Italian navies, which are the left wing of the Triple Alliance forces, breaking through the line from Toulon to Bizerta, while the German fleet, constituting the right wing, must not be allowed to penetrate the Channel.
