Delegates from the Sugar Cane Growers' Union, addressing a meeting of growers in the Richmond River district, stated that the growers were not getting a fair deal from the manufacturers. The latter, they said, were getting too large a share of .profits. Out of £21, per ton realised for sugar on " the market, - the grower only "got £4 4s 6d. The manufacturer of raw sugar made a clear profit !of £3 } Is lOd, while the refiners cleared £7 per ton. • The association y intends to y appeal to the Federal Parliament ;to , appoint a Royal Commission to investigate the matter.
