ONLY LABOUR AGAINST. (Received June 10, 1.5 a.m.) ,• / London, June 9..'; > The Daily News states that whatever steps the Government may be tempted to take must be governed by the considerations that the proposed conference must not be a cover for a party manoeuvre, and must not be allowed to degenerate into ah obstacle to a speedy ) settlement. As to a settlement being essential the mandate of the country is clear and compelling. v-According to the Press Association lobby : opinion considers that a con-. ference is assured, the membership to consist of the Cabinet Ministers on the one side, and Unionist ex- ■ Ministers on the other. The Times and , Daily Chronicle declare that Labour ■ members are strongly opposed to the proposed conference. The' Times adds that the Nationalists are willing to await the - issue of ■.'. a conference, while the Unionists; consider that in the event of r a conference the Government should produce their scheme for the reform of the ; House of Lords. ■ ' ' .
