* NEGATIVE RESULTS. ?-. [by TELEGKAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] s WANGANin, Friday. r A keen watch was kept upon the comet I, from the Wanganui Observatory, which f • possesses one of the finest telescopes in the Southern Hemisphere. Though there were ; intervals of cloudlessness during the period V' at which the comet was passing the sun's B disc no trace of it could be seen. : A slight magnetic storm was experienced 1 in Christchurch (says a Press : Association fr' message), commencing shortly after three p.m. yesterday and continuing with increasing strength until 8.20 p.m. The storm f lasted until four a.m. to-day It is extremely improbable that the storm wag at all attributable to the .-.:; earth's passage through the comet's /tail. In May and l September last year magnetic storms were experienced of greater strength than the 1... ,one yesterday.
