COROMANDEL COUNTY COUNCIL.
: 'i — m '• ■ The ordinary monthly meeting of the Coromandel County Council was held on Monday. • The following motion, proposed by Mr. James and seconded by Mr. Bennett, was. carried unanimously :—" This Council desires to place on record its deep sorrow at the great loss sustained by the Empire through the death of our beloved Sovereign, King Edward." ; The Charitable Aid Board submitted a statement of the estimated revenue and expenditure for the year, showing a shortage of £663 15s, which will necessitate a contribution of £300 from the county fund. The payment of this sum was authorised. According to a schedule prepared by the county engineer, the Council has to maintain 70 miles of metalled roads, 70 miles of formed unmetalled roads, 200 miles of bridle tracks, and 110 bridges over 12ft in span.. The Northern S.S. Company wrote agreeing to pay £50 towards the Mercury Bay wharf extension upon the work being completed. A scheme for the expenditure of halves prepared by the engineer was approved. The clerk was instructed to write to the Minister for Mines on the urgent need of a grant to repair the damage caused by the storm.
