Colonel Vabes, an, English .tourist, arrived from the South Sea Islands yesterday by the Tofua. Dibble, who has occupied the v position of manager of the Ruakura farm ''■ for some years, was yesterday presented by the employees with a handsome travelling rug on the' occasion of his leaving on a trip for England. The presentation was made by Mr. Lonsdale, who will act as manager ' in Mr. Dibble's absence. Colonel Allen Bell, who is shortly proceeding to England to undergo a course of military training, was the recipient of two presentations at Hamilton yesterday. The first, a handsome travelling rug, was from various ladies who had been associated with him in the mounted ladies' scouts quadrille party and other military functions. In the evening members of Lodge Tawhiri, No. 166, made him a presentation. Mr. Charles Schilsky has been appointed by the Board of Trinity College of Music, London, as the examiner for the college this year in Canada, New Zealand, and Tasmania, in practical subjects Pianoforte, organ, violin, singing, etc. Mr. Schilsky, who received his musical education in London, Berlin, and Paris, has • always made the pianoforte and violin his principal instruments, and as a player he has met with considerable success in England, France, Russia, and Poland. He has been identified for several years now with Trinity College as an examiner, both in the United Kingdom and in India and Australia. He is due to arrive in Auckland on August 14, and the local examinations will begin on the following day.
