When the two visitors entered the flat a bomb exploded, killing the supposed uncle and'wounding the servant. The former proved to be Colonel Karpoff. An electric wire outside the room was connected with a bomb beneath a writing table, at which Colonel Karpoff was sitting. 'Vosskressensky was in Karooff pay as a i secret agent., but was plotting with the revolutionaries. He was arrested in the street immediately after the outrage, and, after being convicted of the murder, was executed on January 26.
