A ' BUILDING CLAIM. The case in which H. L. Friend sued A. H. Whitehouse for the sum of £32 6s 4d was continued in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M. Of the sum claimed, £9 8s lOd was alleged to be due as the balance of value of goods sold and delivered by trie plaintiff to the defendant; £16 17s 6d as a royalty agreed to be paid by the defendant in consideration of a license given to exercise a patent for building in camerated concrete and £6 ' for the hire of plant used by the defendant in constructing a building. A counter-claim for £81 was entered by the defendant, on the ground that he had been misled by the plaintiff as to the actual cost of erecting the outside walls of the dwelling in question in camerated concrete. Mr. A. S. C. Brown appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. J. R. Reed for the defendant. W. J. Forrest said that he had given defendant estimates of the quantities that would be required for the building. On the figures witness , gave defendant the total cost of the camerated portion of the house would be about £140. ' No trench was dug for the laying of the foundation, the whole section being sunk Ift 6in and the foundation being laid on the even ground. In the light of his experience witness said that a house of the same kind in' camerated work, could be built for 10 per cent, more than in wood. Witness was cross-examined ,at length by Mr. Reed .as to the quantities of material which had been used in the building.' .. -.
