OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

THREE HOUSES DESTROYED. A NIGHT ALARM. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Tuesday. A .dwelling of six rooms, owned and occupied by Mr. John Twohcy, with practically the whole of the contents, was destroyed by firo between one and two o'clock this morning. Owing to the lack of water in. this section of. the township, the brigade could do little beyond preventing the lire from spreading to the outbuildings. Nothing is known as to tho origin of the fire. The occupants were not aware of the outbreak until Mr. Twohcy was awakened by smoke pouring into his bedroom. The fire had a strong hold, and the members of the family were compelled to make a hasty exit in but scant attire. The building was insured for &150 in the Norwich Union office, and the furniture arid effect* with the same company for £100, but these amounts will fall considerably short of the loss. A MYSTERIOUS BLAZE. [BT TELEGRAM".— CORRESPONDENT.] : Cambridge, Tuesday. An eight-roomed house, owned and occupied by G. H. Batty, at Pukckura, near Cambridge, was totally destroyed by fire on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Batty, who were absent with their family, had left only a few embers in the range, and are quit© at a loss, to account for the occurrence, unless the chimney was defective. Everything contained in the house was lost. Tho fire spread to the outbuildings, and these wcro also destroyed. The insurances were £250 on tho house, and £140 on the furniture, in the North British" office. • '...- COTTAGE BURNT DOWN.
