Unfortunately, the natives had little warning, and one of them, named .Wi Tamaiwhana, was killed, and others were injured through the falling debrife. It is only a short distance from where the other memorable landslide occurred m March, 1846, when the village of Te Rapa was overwhelmed, and all the inhabitants were killed, except three, who escaped.
