HUNGAHUNGA DRAINAGE BOARD.
, FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. Te Aroha, Monday. At the monthly meeting of the Hungahunga Drainage; Board Mr. Cornelius O'Driscoll attended to protect against the construction of the .Waipuna drain until the • Waihekau Board had deepened the Waihekau Creek up to the -junction of the two streams on his land. If the work ! were proceeded with he * declared that his land would .be flooded, and access to his homestead cut off. Mr. Laird, : through whose property the proposed drain chiefly ■ runs, was also present, and controverted some of Mr. O'Driscoll's .■ arguments, ; and the chairman (Mr. Thomas Hanna) pointed out that ' further delay would be serious to Mr. Chudleigh, who was contemplating "the establishment of a large milking herd next' season, and .had already begun building extensive: cowsheds, etc.; If an efficient outlet* was hot' given that scheme would have to be abandoned. This would mean a loss, not only to air. Chudleigh, but to the whole district. Mr. O'Driseoll said it was out of the question to • ask him to consent to have his i land ; flooded, _ and after ; considerable discussion Mr. Laird agreed 3to allow the Board to clean out 59 chains of the drain through his : property, on the understand ing that the whole work . will be carried out when the Waihekau has been deepened. This concession of Mr Laird's will secure the necessary outlet for Mr. Chudleigh.
