FALL FROM A CAB.

DRIVER BADLY INJURED.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Hamilton', Wednesday. A peculiar accident happened about three o'clock this afternoon. A • young man named Robert - Walsh; employed by Dalgleish and Mac Donald, was driving 3SIr. Bennett, proprietor of the Taupiri Hotel, to Frank ton,, in a cab. When the cab had' just' rounded London-street corner, Walsh ! appeared to lose his balance. Whether lie fainted or lost his seat is not known, but : he fell from the seat to the ground. Mr. Bennett immediately jumped out, and went to the man's'assistance, as did several others who were near by. Walsh .was found to be in an unconscious condition, and Dr. Reece, who was soon in attendance, ordered his removal to the hospital, whither he was taken in :an ambulance. Tho full extent of his injuries is not yet known, but it is thought the drum of the left, ear is broken, while the nose is injured, and possibly the brain j affected. The horses in the cab trotted on lound the square and back towards the stables. A train was approaching the •Victoria-street crossing when they reached it, - and they wheeled round; one of tho axles of the cab striking a truck. The engine-driver jumped from'the engine and caught the horses. It- is not thought that the cab passed over Walsh, but that his | injuries were sustained by the fall. Walsh was driving' one of Dalgleish and Mac- | Donald's coaches a few weeks ago, when it was run into by one of Buchanan's coaches, and he had a narrow escape from being pierced by the pole, r which went right through the coach, within a few. inches of where he was sitting. -
