A fire at Grafton Road, Roseneath, this morning, which was due to, the explosion of a stove | destroyed a six-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr. Smith Sunderland. There was a strong' wind arid the brigade were powerless owing to the absence of water. The insurance is riot known. k - . - Another fire, which threatened to destroy a Whole terrace of cottages, each of five rooms, ~in South Kilbirnie, was discovered in the ■ kitchen of one ' of • the' houses, shortly , after 'one ;o'clock in the morning. * There was ; a' strong southerly at the time, and the flames,did considerable damage before they were suppressed. Mr. Richard Jones, the occupier of one of the houses destroyed, smelt something burning in the kitchen, and made an unsuccessful attempt to cope with the outbreak. He had been drying clothes, and ? it is supposed a spark ignited them. An adjacent cottage, occupied by Mr. W. E. Godber, * was also destroyed, with; its contents. Mr. Jones' ;furniture:. insured for £175, and Mr. . Godber's for '■ £75.
