SUPPLY OF RAW MATERIAL, ACTION FOR DAMAGES FAILS. By Telegraph.—Pres* —Copyright. : London, December 20. The trial has concluded of the action instituted by a petition of right from the Imperial Cold Storage Company, claiming £280,000 damages from the Crown for alleged breach of contracts. , ■ V''" ; •' ■ It was alleged that during the South African campaign the representatives of "the War Office promised to supply the company with all stock captured by the Comman-der-in-Chief (Lord Kitchener) at a penny below the contract price for supplying meat to the army. Instead of adhering to this agreement, however, the War Office charged 3d above the contract price, refused to allow for disease or poverty in the condition of the animals. According to some witnesses Lord Kitchener declares that the former contractors had defrauded the War Office of £1,000,000, and he would not rest satisfied till he had got some of the money back from the suppliants. The action has been dismissed with costs.
