ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. [BY TELEGItArr..—rRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christ-church. Wednesday. The ordinary entries of all classes of stock were penned at Addington Yards to-day, although those of fat lambs and store sheep showed an advance on the previous week, with the exception of some lines of ewes. Practically all the sheep yarded were out of wool.

The attendance was rather above the average of, recent markets, and all classes interested in stock were well represented. Farmers present at the sale reported that the outlook from the agricultural standpoint had never appeared brighter than at present. Everywhere there was an abundance of grass, and crops were looking wonderfully promising, but there was a general consensus' of opinion that a few weeks of warm sunshine and absence of rain would have a beneficial effect not only on the crops, but also on the pastures. as, on account of the moist season, grass in many localities is becoming rank, and thus lacks the nutritive qualifies resulting from sunshiny weather. It was reported too. that the recent muggy weather was mainly responsible for the. appearance of rust in the crops in many districts. The yarding of fat cattle, numbering 1230, was below the average of recent markets, but the quality was about equal to the usual standard. From the outset the sale was very irregular, values differing considerably at various periods, and the market was a shade weaker than the previous week's, although not quota lower. Steers realised from £7 to £10; heifers. £5 15s to £8; and cows, £5 to £8 7s 6d. Best steer beef realised 21s to 235; medium. 18a to 20« 6d. and cow beef, 17s 6d per 1001b. In veal calves there was a fair entry, principally of puny animals, and average demand, prices ranging from 4s 6d to £2, according to age, quality, and condition. The yarding of fat lambs totalled 1320, compared with 560 last week. The entries were mostly of good quality, but as the result of the large supply and competition being confined to butchers, prices were easier, and the decline equal to Is 6d per head on the prices ruling the previous week. It has to be recorded, despite the large yarding, that nearly all the lots changed hands, the number passed being ouly 135. The best class realised 12s to 14s 6d, and lighter Ps 6d to lis 6d.

The yarding of store"-sheep was larger than at previous sales, and included some lines of very nice quality. All classes of sheep were represented, and the percentage of wethers was larger than for some weeks past. There was a very good attendance of buyers, all of whom appeared keen to do business, with the result that the sale was a spirited one, and all lots were cleared under the hammer, at prices equal to, and in some instance* above, the previous week's level. Ewes, woolly, mostly aped, with lambs, made from 7s lOd to 9s 6d ; shorn ewes with lambs, 19s 2d, all counted; four and six-tooth ewes, shorn. 9s 3d to 9s 4d; ewes in wool, with lambs, 10s 6d to 15* Id ; shorn crossbred ewes, 8a; shorn halfbred ewes, 13s 9d: owe hoggets, in wool, with lambs, 10s 6d: two-tooth wethers, shorn, 9s 7d to 10s lOd; four and six-tooth wethers, lis 8d to 14s 2d; four-tooth wethers, very forward, 13s 3d to 14? 2d : cull shorn wethers, 8« 4d; wether hogget*. 10s 6d. Fat pigs were in smaller supply than for some weeks past, and prices were on a par with those ruling for some weeks.

Choppers made to £3 10s; heavy baconers, 46s to 50s, and lighter, 38s to 45s (equal to 4d to 4{d per lb); heavy porkers made 34s to 375, and lighter 30s to 33s (equal 4Jd to 4Jd per lb). The demand for stores, of which there was a medium entry, showed an improvement, especially for the smaller sorts. Medium stores made. 22a to 30s, and smaller 18s to 20s: small weanera made 10s 6d. and good sorts to 16* 6d. There was a rather larger yarding of fat sheep than last week, the bulk being good.

In prime wethers and ewe* the Bale opened very well, and priced then ease*?, but recovered again, though on the whole they were below last week's level, in some cases us much as Is pet head. A West Coast buyer assisted the market by his operations, and several lota of backward young sheep were, bought by graziers. The range of prices was :—Woolly wethers, 19» 9d ; woolly hoggets, 17s 10* ; woolly ewes, 15s to 18s 3d; prime shorn wethers, 15s to 16* 6d; lighter Hi to 14s bd ; prime shorn ewes, 13s 6d to 14a 7d ; others, 8s to 12s ; shorn hoggets, 12s 6d.

A small yarding of More cattle was made up principally of 15 to 18-month* sorts, and there was a good demand for yearlings, which made 36s ; 15-month* to 18-months, 42s to 52s 6d ; twoyears steers. £4 Is to £4 13s: three-years steers, £5 15a: 21-year-old steer*, £4 17s 6d ; and drycows. 20s to £4 9s. Dry cows made £3 to £9 15s.
