ST. PAUL'S CHURCH FETE.
The great topic of conversation is the big fote to be opened ,in Government House and grounds to-morrow, at three p.m. Though this is the official opening hour, the public will be admitted as on other days;at two p.m. The musical arrangements are now complete. Brass bands and orchestras will attend, and, when in tho evening the electrio illuminations are switched on, and the hundred of swaying lanterns are lit, all Auckland should bo drawn to the beauiiful grounds of Government House. The promoters are to be congratulated on the wonderful response given to their call for assistance. Few can realise the anxiety and work involved in such an undertaking as that to which St. Paul's vestry have put their hands, and nothing but the ready alacrity with which offers of assistance have com© forward could have made the promise of & happy issue so bright as it undoubtedly is. From all sides, and from the most unexpected quarters, gifts and help have poured in, till now nothing but fine weather is needed to make the venture a huge success. The ladies' efforts, through the generosity *• of numerous wholesale and retail firms,'. have resulted in tho provision of a splendid assortment of articles for sale at moderate prices. Novelties sent , direct from Canada and Japan should find ready purchasers amongst those desiring Christmas presents. The proceeds are in aid of the building completion fund, and the management desire to notify the public that no raffles or guessing competitions will be held, nor will there be any sacrificing sale to clear off unsold stock on tho last day. Those who buy, or who merely pay their entrance money,' will all receive good value for their money, and at the same, time will have the pleasure of knowing that they are helping a good cause. The feto will be open twice daily. ~ « Tho. committee held their final' meeting at Government House last night. .A pre ; liminavy trial of the electric lighting. of the ground was successful, and a great deal of preparatory work was done.
