Mr and Mrs. R. Crawford and Mrs. Moss, of Edinburgh, arrived by the lonic yesterday morning. They are staying at the Grand Hotel, and intend touring the Dominion.

Dr. Pomare has (according to the Taranaki News) been requested by a deputation of Taranaki natives to stand for the Western Maori seat at the next election, and ■will probably follow the example of his late colleague, Dr. Buck, in seeking Parliamentary honours on behalf of the Young Maori party.

Mr. A. J. Entrican, Deputy-Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. E. Read, and the town clerk (Mr. H. W. Wilson) arrived in Wellington last evening (telegraphs our correspondent). They- will have an interview with the Minister for Finance (Sir Joseph Ward) to-day, in regard to the Bill providing for the consolidation, of the Auckland City Council's loans.

A quiet wedding was celebrated at the residence of the bride's parents, Aoergwile," Mount Roskill, on- October 30, when Mr. J. Rhys Owen was married to Miss Lizzie Evans. The groomsmen were Mr. A. Neighbour and Mr. B. Evans. At . the conclusion of the ceremony the guests were entertained by the parents of the bride. The * presents were numerous and costly, among them being several cheques.

Mr. J. Katterns Manning died at Wanganui. on Friday. Mr. Manning joined the teaching staff of the Wanganui College in 1885, when the late Rev. B. W. Harvey, D.D., was headmaster. In addition to his scholarly attainments, Mr. Manning had considerable musical gifts, and was for several years organist and choirmaster at Christ Church, Wanganui. ; Subsequent to severing his connection with the school, he followed the profession of a teacher of music, And was for some time the conductor of the Wanganui LiedertafeL : ~
