A DIRTY FACE.
"Is there no water in the town?" Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., asked a man who appeared in the Magistrate's Court, Christchurch, with a face almost as black as a chimney sweep's. The man explained that he was a labourer and was engaged stoking and did not have time to wash his face before coming to Court. "I'll deal with you as if your face were washed," said the magistrate, "but you would look a great deal better if it were washed."
