PAEROA. [B/ TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Paeroa, Monday. Mr. F. A. Lowe, of the staff of the Paeroa Post Office, who has been transferred to Rotorua, was presented prior to his departure with a pair of 6ilver-backed brushes from the staff of the local post office. The presentation was made by the postmaster, Mr. W. H. Dempsey. TE AROHA. [FROM OCR ow.v correspondent.] Te Aroha, Monday. At a meeting of the Waitoa Drainage Board on Saturday the resolution of the old.Board, to ask the Governor to vest the main outlet and Nos. 1 and 7 roads in the Board, was rescinded. The chairman (Mr. Magill) said that the Piako County Council, which had £3000 to spend on the roads on the estate, would do nothing so long as the resolution remained, but it was hoped now the work would be started in earnest. It was resolved that the Board wait on the Council at its next meeting, with a view to finding out what the Council's intentions are. It was further decided to make a tour of the estate in question to decide upon a general scheme of drainage, to take the place of that formulated by the old Board and rejected by the ratepayers. If possible, the Board will get the county supervisor to accompany them, so that members may get a better understanding of the interests that are common to both bodies. Three applications were received for the vacant position- of clerk, and Mr. T. D. Rice was appointed at a remuneration of £20 per annum. It was decided to hold future meetings of the Board at Waihou on the second Saturday in each month. The Druids from the goldfields centres held a monster picnic here on Saturday. Special excursion trains brought fulTy 1000 people in the morning, and took them home in the evening, without accident or mishap. The day was fine, though the heavy rain of Friday made the ground in the pound paddock, where part of the sports programme was carried out, rather heavy. The children were entertained in the Domain, where some of the elders also indulged in bowls and tennis. There was a large attendance on the bowling green, and some interesting matches were played. A meeting of the executive of the Te Aroha Agricultural and Horticultural Association was held on Saturday night, at which certain preliminaries in connection with the annual show in January were arranged. •

WAIWERA.

[FROM out OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

The Waitemata A. and P. Association held a meeting at Puhoi (Mr. W. McCathic presiding), when plans of the new showyards were exhibited. The cattle stewards were appointed to superintend the erection of the yards in time for the next show, to be held at Waiwera on February 26, 1910.

A meeting of settlers is to be held at Puhoi on Saturday, December 11, to discuss whether a butter factory should be erected in the district or not. A number of the local fanners consider that sufficient cows could be got in the Puhoi-Waiwera district to start a factory. Mr. J. Stewart, of Helensville, lately visited the district in an endeavour to get farmers to send their cream to Stewart Brothers' factory at Helensville. Should a local butter factory not be decided upon, it is expected that a number of milkers will forward cream to Helensville.

Waiwera has already commenced to command the attention of week-end trippers, and a very busy season is promised. Mr. Farrell, architect for the Education Board, was down here a few days ago to take, levels for the build'oig of the new school, which residents hope to see built in time for opening after the summer* holidays.
