[MtOM OTJE OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambbidgb, Wednesday. ": At the 'Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, before Mr. F. O'B. Loughnan, S.M., a native named Hanuere sued a European named .Ellis Sayers. of Putaruru, for: £10, for damages alleged to have been '; done to plaintiff's horse by its '*' being ';■ shot yat by defendants Mr. W. F. Buckland appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. S. Lewis for defendant. The plaintiff and two other .; natives said that they saw,, Sayers .deliberately, shoot at the. horse, which,- on being caught, showed evidences of shot having entered its hide. v The defendant said "that he was ■■ out, shooting rabbits on his property on }t the*! day in question, when his dog started a horse out of the tea-tree. He saw a rabbit,, and fired at • it. , About ■•:, a-quarter of, an hour later the Maoris came back with : what he considered c . another horse, ;« which 1 had been shot previously. j The horse' that his dog started was a wild one, and not the one brought back by the natives. Bad feeling had existed between him •> and 4, the Maoris, and he believed this was their way of getting the better of him. l -'\ The magistrate said the weight of evidence was in favour, of plaintiff. ,He believed the horse was shot at purposely, and awarded exemplary damages. Judgment would be. for plaintiff for. £6, with costs £5 12s. ';U
