VICTORIA. , ... /: [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. In the Victoria mine the connection between the bottom of the winze on tho new leader sunk from the intermediate level _to No! 1 level has been made, and a drive has been carried along westward on the leader at No. 1 level for 12ft. Good colours of gold have been seen in the quartz broken, but nothing that could be classed as picked stone. A start is now being made to carry along a leading stope over the drive. It is also intended to drive eastward on the leader so as to open up a block of ground for stoping between the two levels, a height of about 50ft. KURANUI-CALEDONIAN. [by TELEGRAPH.OWN correspondent.] ~ Thames, Saturday. Wo|k in the Kuranui-Caledonian mine is still confined to prospecting operations on Graham's leader in the upper levels in the <Kuranui section, and a connection has been effected between the old workings on this leader and the lAlburnia main tunnel. - So far, although colours of gold are seen through the quartz, nothing of a pay&blo nature has been met with. In the Waiofcahi mine the drive eastward on the junction of the hangingwall leader and tho main reef at the intermediate level, between Nos- 5 and 4- levels, is being continued, and the quartz coming to hand is of good quality, and shows good dabs of gold. At No. 4- lovel tho second stope on the hangingwall leader is still producing good grade ore. A start was made yesterday with the third stope from the rise, and the lode in tho face looks well, showing strong blotches of coarse gold. WATCHMAN.
