KNOCKED DOWN BY A TRUCK.
ENGINE-DRIVER INJURED. f' *• ' _ ,4 ' •' [by TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ' Gore, Tuesday. ,A distressing accident happened in the : Gore railway yard this morning, the victim • being Forrester Mackley, engine-driver on the Waikaka line. Mackley was standing "s 'on the engine of an outgoing Clinton goods train, talking to the driver, and while jumping down off the footplate a truck, which was being shunted, struck him on the back, knocking him down and carrying him along underneath. Mackley was tarried' fully 30ft before a bystander (T. Sher- -• borne) noticed the accident, and promptly applied the brake to the truck and extricated the unfortunate man. Drs. Rogers . and Brugh were speedily in attendance, and the sufferer was conveyed to the hospital. The injuries sustained were a shattered shoulder, loss of an index finger and part of the thumb, and it is questionable whether the arm will not have to be amputated..
